Conversion to sustainable farming practices
A tailored ongoing mentoring program that takes the individual landowner on a journey toward the conversion to more sustainable and profitable farming practices. Support is provided both on-site and off-site via phone and email.
The program commences with a one to three day assessment on farm followed by monthly or bi- monthly farm visits to sustain progress and provide support.
The Process
- Establish the vision, goals of the individual
- Set a base line from which to work considering soil samples, leaf samples, soil carbon levels, current production yields.
- Look at whole of business, establish cost constraints, infrastructure constraint, management capabilities, production model.
- Identify the big levers to pull to get the best and fastest changes and results.
- Deliver group or individual training/education to like-minded farmers. Study group type approach where information and progress is shared.
- Co-ordinate external specialist education/training for individuals/group.
- Share knowledge and expertise of successful transitions to speed up the process.
- Monitor and report on progress monthly/bi-monthly or annually depending on the model adopted.
